Success for Ralph Allen's Elite Athletes

Once again it has been a busy time for many of the elite athletes at Ralph Allen School who have been competing successfully both at home and abroad.

Year 13 Tennis Student James Mitchell reached the quarter finals of the singles at an event in Vancouver, Canada, which was a super achievement for James.

Eden Richardson Year 11 and Seb Butler Year 13 also enjoyed a very successful trip to SE Asia competing in both Kuching, Malaysia and Bangkok in Thailand. Eden reached Quarter finals and semis in singles and doubles at both events whilst Seb went one better and won the Doubles Tournament in Thailand. Both players beat higher seeded opponents along the way, conducting themselves at all times in a highly professional manner, showing continuation on their learning curve at International level events and were rewarded by both moving significantly up the World Junior rankings to career high positions.

In Rhythmic Gymnastics Sarah Dennis in Year 13 who has battled with injuries over the past couple of years took part in an International Invitational Meeting in Bergen, Holland performing really well in both Ribbon and Clubs resulting in a deserved gold medal for her efforts.

In other sports Rhiannon Bowen took part in the South West Schools U14 Biathlon (100m Swim and 1500m Run) Championships at Millfield School and took the Silver medal. By achieving a top 3 result Rhiannon qualifies for the National Schools Final to be held at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London next March, a super achievement.

Charlie Head in Year 11, Rhiannon and Mia Crudgington both Year 8 have just returned from a five day intensive training camp in Cardiff swimming up to 7.5kms daily (the Bath University 50m pool is currently closed for refurbishment meaning even earlier 4.30- 5am wake up times for training!).  Talented Junior Triathlete Will Crudgington in Year 11 is also busy with training camps at the Junior South West Triathlon Academy.

Looking ahead at the end of November Rhiannon Granville in Year 12 is competing in the U17 GB Cadets Fencing competition in Tauber, Germany.

Tim Withers, Principal of Ralph Allen School, said, ‘We wish good luck to all the Ralph Allen elite athletes competing in their various sports at local or regional level over the coming weeks.’
