Model United Nations Conference

Four Ralph Allen School delegates attended the 25th Bath International Schools' Model United Nations Conference which took place on 6-8 March 2015 at Kingswood School.

They were Year 12 students Bartholomew Scattergood, Tom Weedon, Izzy Vinall and Adelaide Peach

Students debated a wide range of contemporary issues, including the threat from the Islamic state, the situation in the Ukraine, combating cyberterrorism, combating cancer, the arms trade treaty, energy security, fair trade, international debt, climate change, marine pollution, healthcare in Africa and poaching and conservation.

The students formed a number of different committees such as political, health, economics, human rights and a Security Council.

Each school was allocated to a different country – Ralph Allen School was representing Sudan.

Participating schools travelled from as far afield as Shropshire, North Yorkshire, Birmingham and Worcester – also from Edinburgh, Portugal and Germany.  Most Bath secondary schools, both state and private, took part, including Ralph Allen, Beechen Cliff, Hayesfield, King Edward’s, St Gregory’s and Kingswood.

Mrs Vicky Perry, who organised the Ralph Allen delegation, said, ‘This year the Ralph Allen team was the best that we have taken to this event.  They participated fully in the debates, and got a lot out of the weekend.  They found it a really useful experience.’
