Japanese students visit Ralph Allen

Kyoto-Gakuen Visit

Over 30 students and their teachers from the Japanese high school, Kyoto Gakuen, visited Ralph Allen School once again this year, 2-5 June 2015 – their sixth year. The Japanese students were paired with Ralph Allen students from Year 9 who  acted as 'buddies.'

The purpose of the visit was for the Japanese students to gain cultural enrichment by experiencing an English school and to see the British way of life, from eating meals in our ‘Healthy Schools’ canteen to enjoying sports on our new all-weather sports pitch.

As part of the programme devised by Elac Study Tours, the Japanese students took part in a variety of workshops and excursions. They also attended some of their buddy's classes. The visit  culminated in an exciting Japanese-style visual presentation on Fri 5 June – including a traditional dance with props.

Yvonne Miles, Principal’s PA who coordinated the visit, said, ‘The students enjoyed SKYPING together in the run-up to the visit and were very excited to meet face to face.  They all had a wonderful week, one which the Ralph Allen students will never forget.’

Tim Withers, Principal, said, ‘Meeting students from Japan is an enriching experience for our pupils: in a short space of time they become good friends and learn about the different cultures in the two countries.’
