Superb GCSE results 24 August 2017

21% of students achieve 6 or more top grades in their GCSEs including in the new English and Maths qualifications

Ralph Allen School is delighted to report that Year 11 students have today received a great set of examination results. 72% of students achieved 5 or more GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths (using new numerical grades). 26% of grades were A/A*, or 7 – 9 in the new subjects. Amongst these there were many truly astounding sets of results with 30 students (21%) getting 6 or more top grades. 3 students (Joe Mason, Max Davis and Kat Petmezas) got a top grade in all their subjects.

John Chantry, Head of School, said, ‘I want to recognise and congratulate the achievement of all our students, a very great many of whom achieved the “personal best” which we challenged them to achieve (often despite what they thought was possible!!). These grades are the fruit of years of determination, resilience and effort.  This year there has been particular anxiety across the country with the new style of GCSE exams being taken in English and Maths and I have been really impressed with the way in which our students have taken these in their stride and still performed really well.

‘I also want to pay special tribute to those students who achieved despite having to deal with difficult personal circumstances. My thanks goes to all those who have supported them through their exams as well as their teachers. Teamwork is one of our core values and is an essential ingredient in helping students achieve the best exam results possible.

‘With these exams behind them, as well as the personal skills and qualities the students have developed over their time at Ralph Allen, students are now in a great position to move on to their exciting next stage and I would like to wish all our students every success as they embark on A Levels, apprenticeships or other post 16 courses. ’ John Chantry, Head of School
