Transport update

At the start of this term there were some problems with bus capacity . We would like to apologise to parents and students for any difficulties they have experienced, and reassure you that we are liaising closely with the bus companies so that there is sufficient provision for all the students.

The problems were the result of this being term 1. There are two main issues:

· At this time of year – until the start of the university term (25 September) - the buses that serve the university run less frequently and this has an impact on us, too. For example, Wessex bus company which runs the 20A/20C bus, informed us that it was running a reduced service until the university started up again.

· It is difficult for the bus companies to be sure of the capacity that will be needed before our term starts, at which point they can start to see how many of our students are using each bus service.

We are also finding that the car park at the Sulis Club, which the University of Bath kindly allow us to use, has been getting extremely full.

If you are collecting your children by car and are able to come a bit later, we would recommend picking them up from the school coach park after 3.30pm – by this time the buses have gone and cars can enter the school coach park to pick up students.

Here are some practical ideas which we hope may help parents and students:

· The school offers a breakfast club daily from 8.15am for students who could catch an earlier bus to avoid the rush

· The library is open for students from 8.15am Tuesday-Friday

· A homework club takes place in the library after school until 4.15pm for those who would prefer to get their homework done at school, enabling them to  catch a later bus

· Spaces are available on the RA4 bus run by the company Abus if students are unable to get on the 20A/20C.

It is important to note that the bus services to and from Ralph Allen School are run by commercial providers.  Ticket prices are set by the bus companies and they and the bus providers are subject to change, and are unfortunately beyond the school’s control.

The school’s website,, gives details of which buses serve Bath and the surrounding villages.  Please see the individual bus company’s websites for details of pricing and timetables.
