Year 7 boys' Rugby and Year 9 boys' football news

Year 7 rugby (see photographs)

We have now had 34 players representing the school at rugby at Year 7 which is a huge testament to the commitment and enthusiasm of the students since September. Our latest fixture involved 18 players - 12 of whom were playing for the first time - playing a rematch against St Gregory’s School.

Some great tackling and defence set the tone early on in the game with strong performances from Zac, Yahia, Sterling, Jacob, Adam, Leo and Tom.  Numerous substitutions did not affect the pace of the Ralph Allen game and two great tries were scored by Adam and Tom. St Gregory’s also played really well and a close game was level at 2 tries each with 5 minutes to go. A RAS scrum saw a fine break from Sterling who fed a clever pass to Jacob who finished the move off with what turned out to be the winning try.

A tough game but a great feeling for the players at the final whistle. Well played!

Year 9 football

As reigning BANES champions our Year 9 football team have been entered into the Somerset County Cup competition this year. Their first game involved a drive to Nailsea School in South Bristol.

Trialling a new formation, our three-man defence produced great performances from Rufus, George and Joel. This was superbly supported by the man of the match Lewis in a holding midfield role. Niall and Liam controlled the middle of the pitch with strong performances out wide from Tom and Omar. Our two strikers worked tirelessly and were rewarded with some good goals. Our keeper, Laurie, had little to do but still showed confidence and composure on the ball.

A great start to the campaign - a 10-0 victory! The next round is an away game to Writhlington School. Good luck boys.
