ICE - Informal Careers Event 8 November 2017

Thank you all local employers, careers advisers and alumni who came to talk to students about careers and future possibilities at the Informal Careers Event today.

Over 40 different jobs and careers were represented, including the army, hairdressing, engineering, teaching, medical and veterinary careers, sports science, journalism, digital screenwriting, the law, estate agency, accountancy, events organisation and the hospitality industry.  Several alumni came back to share insights about their careers, and many local employers kindly gave up their time to take part in the event.  There was an electrician, a heating engineer, a hairdresser, a teacher of English as a foreign language, as well as people from banking, retail and outdoor education.

Students from year 10 and above were able to talk to the wide variety of people from different jobs and careers to find out more about what the jobs involve and the qualifications you need.

Careers advisers and people from apprenticeship schemes were also available to offer advice.

John Chantry, Head of School at Ralph Allen, said, ‘This event provides an ideal opportunity for our students to find out about potential careers.  They can talk to people already doing those jobs and discover the pros and cons, and also ask about what training and qualifications they may need to enter those careers.  Our students found the event really inspiring, and we are enormously grateful to all the employers and alumni who have given up their time to come and talk to our students.’
