Bath Iron - Festival of Ironwork

Bath Iron - Festival of Ironwork

Thurs 14 - Sun 17 June 2018

For the first time ever in Bath, this 4-day festival offers a unique opportunity to witness Master blacksmiths at work as they forge a brand new musical themed balustrade for the Parade Gardens bandstand. The design for the balustrade is based on an original musical score 'Hammer and Anvil' composed by Bath Spa University competition winner Jake Garret. The festival will culminate in a striking piece of public art, donated to the city, leaving a beautiful lasting legacy for generations of visitors to Bath and Parade Gardens to enjoy.  Join us in a celebration of our craft heritage featuring:

  • Dynamic blacksmithing demonstrations
  • Have-a-go forging for children and adults
  • Demonstrations of Saxon Spearhead forging, molten metal casting + much more
  • Exhibition of contemporary and traditional forged ironwork

  • Guided walking tours of Bath’s ironwork
  • Live music by the Bath Folk Festival team
  • Pop-up forging around the city
  • Food and craft stall

Families could also sponsor a note, a treble clef, a stave and take this is a unique opportunity to be a part of making this memorable piece of public art a reality.
