Transport update for September 2018

Listed below are the main bus services to and from Ralph Allen School from September 2018.

IMPORTANT RA4 and RA1 Buses will no longer operate.

RA1 Please note that the as a result of the diminished numbers of students requiring this route, this service is no longer viable so will no longer be running.

RA4 Please note that we have received the following information regarding the RA4 from Abus:

'I understand from BANES public transport that alternative services will be available in September following alterations to First services in the area. I believe that the U2 will operate in both directions and that the 20 will be altered to cover other areas. For details please consult Traveline, BANES or First.

'Pupils who use the prepaid Squidcards should ensure that the outstanding value is used on these before the end of term as they may not be able to use them on other operators buses.'

The new bus service arrangements to replace the RA4 are in two elements, a service 20 and service U2 that will both be operated by First. The two routes are shown on the right (firstly the 20 then the U2).  Unlike at present the U2 service will operate in both directions along the section of route between the University and Rush Hill.  On the map extract the U2 is the section from the University of Bath via Claverton Down that does a loop around Twerton and Whiteway.

Please look at the bus company websites for timetables nearer September.

Ralph Allen top tips for travelling to school

Here are some practical ideas which we hope may help parents and students:

  • The school offers a breakfast club from 8.15am Monday-Friday for students who could catch an earlier bus to avoid the rush
  • The library is open for students from 8.15am Tuesday-Friday
  • A homework club takes place in the library after school until 4.15pm Monday-Friday for those who would prefer to get their homework done at school, enabling them to catch a later bus or be collected later
  • Cycle racks available at school for students who cycle to school.  Wear a helmet please!
  • For health and wellbeing and developing independence please consider your child walking all or part of the way to school
  • Get together with parents in your local area to car-share
