Year 7 and 8 Sportshall Athletics 2019

The event includes field events such as shot, vertical jump, standing long jump, standing triple jump and speed bounce, and track events such as obstacle race, 2 lap race, 4 lap race, 6 lap race, 8 lap (2 person) paarlaf race and 2 lap relay.

Girls'Team - Luana Sasaman, Ella Rose Tapscott, Sienna Laskey-Down, Maeve Mcgee, Sophie Parnell

Boys' Team - Will Willets, Luke Firth, Josh Parry-Smith, Tequan Nkhomes, Aaron Warren and James Watkins

The year 7 girls and boys kick-started the competition at Wellsway School with two wins in the obstacle race.  Luana and Josh then went on to win their 2 lap races as well.  The 4 lap race brought another win for the girls’ team with Ella running a great race and Josh did the double by winning the 6 lap race. Ella and Sienna won the 8 lap team race.  The girls’ team went on to win the A and B speed bounce competition and the A and B Standing Long jump. The boys’ team won the B speed bounce and the A and B standing triple jump.

The Result of the all this was the year 7 girls’ team won overall and the year 7 boys’ team came second, but both teams progress to the county finals on 28 January – WELL DONE!

This was the first time the year 8 students had experienced these events so it was all new to them – The year 7s had a taster session in their PE lessons.

The year 8 girls had a good start in the track events with Amy Lashbrook winning her 2 lap race, Izzy Moore winning her 4 lap race and Izzy and Maria winning the 8 lap paarlaf race. Martha Childs-Evans won the speed bounce. In the boys’ team they came 3rd in the obstacle race and Jacob Davis was 2nd in his 2 lap race and the team took 3rd place in the standing triple jump

Overall the Year 8 girls’ team was 3rd, just missing out on qualification and the Year 8 boys’ team was 5th. A great effort by all the team and a great supportive atmosphere from Ralph Allen School.
