After weeks of practice at badminton club, our badminton squad players in years 8 and 9 travelled to Chew Valley School to compete in the B&NES Schools Badminton Championships. This annual event brings together the best junior badminton players in the local area as part of the first round of the Badminton England National Schools Championships.
Chew Valley, Wellsway and the RAS 'A' and 'B' teams battled it out in a round-robin style competition knowing that the 1st and 2nd placed teams overall would qualify for the County Finals at UWE in January. Both the A team and the B team beat Wellsway and lost to Chew Valley meaning the last match of the night between them would decide who would take that all important 2nd place spot. The first singles match went to the B team, the first doubles to the A team; 1-1 with 3 matches left to play. The B team took the second singles, the A team took the second doubles. 2-2. The final doubles match was the decider. The standard of play throughout the whole competition had been excellent and reached its peak in the final match with a 15-12 win to the B team.
A fantastic result for the year 8 B team and a fantastic competition all round for all of the players.
