Monday 23rd of May – English Language Component 1

  • Single one hour 45 minute paper

  • Section a - Reading –1 hour

    • Read the Fiction short story and answer 5 questions

    • Question 1 is worth five marks and can be answered in short sentences

    • Question 2 is worth five marks but needs to be answered as a full paragraph

    • Questions 3, 4 and 5 are 10 mark questions which you need to spend 10 minutes on

    • It’s vital that you give at least a partial response to all five questions

  • Section B – Narrative Writing

    • You will have a choice of four writing tasks and need to complete one only. These will always include a title (E.g. ‘Appearing on stage), A ‘Write about a time when…(e.g. Write about a time you felt scared), and a ‘Write about a story that begins/ends with… (E.g. Write  a story that begins ‘I’m not coming and that’s the end of it’). One of these formats will be doubled up on.

    • Spend 5 mintues planning, 35 minutes writing and five minutes proof reading.

    • Check for basics in punctuation and grammar – paragraphs, apostrophes, capital letters and homophones.

 

Monday 6th of June – English Language Component 2 (non-fiction)

 

  • Single two-hour paper

  • Section a - Reading –1 hour

    • Read 2 Non-Fiction extracts and answer 6 questions

    • For 10 mark questions you need to spend 10 minutes on them

    • Some questions are 3 mark questions,  can be answered with bullet points and should only take 5 minutes.

    • It’s vital that you give at least a partial response to all six questions

  • Section b – 2x 30 minute non-fiction writing tasks.

    • There is no choice of question and you must complete both tasks – this is different from your mock where there was only a single task!

    • Spend 25 minutes on each task. Spend 3 minutes planning before you start and 2 minutes proof-reading.

    • You may be asked to write: a formal or informal letter, an article for a magazine, a speech, a report, a review or a leaflet.

Monday 13th of May – English Literature Component 1

  • Single two hour paper

  • Section A: Romeo and Juliet – 1 hour

    • 1x Extract only question

    • 20 minutes

    • 1 x Essay question on either a character or theme

    • 40 minutes

  • Section B: Eduqas Poetry Anthology- 1 hour

    • 20 minutes - part (a) - write about the printed poem

    • 40 minutes -  part (b) - select any other poem with a similar theme to compare

    • One poem will be printed on the exam paper but you must also revise a range of poems from the anthology to be sure you can write the comparison.

Monday 20th of May – English Literature Component 2

  • Single two-and-a-half-hour paper

  • Section A: An Inspector Calls – 45 minutes

    • 1x Exploding extract question on either a character or theme

  • Section B: A Christmas Carol – 45 minutes

    • 1x Exploding extract question on either a character or theme

  • Section 3: Unsee Poetry - 1 hour

    • 20 minutes - part (a) - write about the printed unseen poem

    • 40 minutes - part (b) – compare the first poem to the second printed unseen poem

    • This question will open with a brief summary of the poems, so you will have a clear idea of their overall meaning

  • tectonic processes & hazards, weather processes & hazards (tropical storms, UK extreme weather), causes, impacts and management of climate change

 

Section B: The living world

  • ecosystems (small-scale, biomes), tropical rainforests, cold environments

 

Section C: Physical landscapes in the UK

  • coasts (processes, landforms, managing erosion), rivers (processes, landforms, managing flood risk)

  • do not answer the question on glaciers!

 

Paper 2 - Challenges in the Human Environment

  • manging food, water, energy in the UK, global resource management, managing global water supply

  • do not answer the questions on food (Q4) or energy (Q6)!

 

Paper 3 - Geographical Applications

  • unseen questions based on the resource booklet on the housing crisis and Tudeley Village Proposal

 

Section B: Fieldwork

  • questions on the physical and human fieldwork you have done in Swanage

  • questions on fieldwork you have not done

History

Paper One - 2-hours = Wednesday 15th May - AM

Students will be sitting Paper One on the following topics:

 - Russia, Tsardom to Communism, 1896 to 1945 - 40-marks
  • Q1-3 - these involve working with 2 interpretations on Russia; for Q1 and Q2 you are to compare the viewpoints, and for Q3 you should decide which is more accurate based on your knowledge.

  • Q4 and Q5 - these are knowledge and explanation questions

  • Q6 - this is an essay question where you decide which factor is more important in some way - you should expand on each factor separately and then come to a conclusion on which was greater - this should take about 15-20-minutes

     

- Conflict and Tension between East and West, 1945-1972 - 44-marks
  • Q1-2 - these involve working with sources on the Cold War - you should bring in knowledge to expand on what you see/read and remember to comment on the author. We have followed CAPE in class for Q2 - just be sure to answer the overall question with no comparison of the sources.

  • Q3 - this is a knowledge and explanation question - be sure to expand on why the event was significant in creating or decreasing tension in the long and short-term. Remember PEEL paragraphs here.

  • Q4 - this is an essay question - you will be awarded 4 SPaG marks for this too! You must discuss the event they give you and then compare to other events in that decade. Be sure to compare to the event given throughout - you should spend about 25-minutes of the exam writing this response.

Paper Two - 2-hours = Tuesday 4th June - PM

Students will be sitting Paper Two on the following topics:

 - Health and the People, c.1000 to the present day - 44-marks
  • Q1- this is a source question where you must evaluate its usefulness about a topic. Remember we use CAPE to evaluate content and the provenance - be sure to expand with your knowledge.

  • Q2-3 - these are knowledge and explanation questions - write your ideas in PEEL paragraphs here and link back to the themes and factors that we have studied.

  • Q4 - this is an essay question - you will be awarded 4 SPaG marks for this too! You must discuss the factor they give you and then compare to other factors that influence the one of the themes of causation, prevention, treatment, Public Health or surgery. Be sure to compare to the factor given throughout - you should spend about 25-minutes of the exam writing this response.

- Norman England, 1066-1100 - 40-marks
  • Q1 - this involves working with an interpretation. You must use your knowledge of the period to discuss how the view is accurate. Do not focus on what is missing or who the author is. 

  • Q2-3 - these are knowledge and explanation questions - be sure to expand on why the event was significant in creating change, stability or continuity in the long and short-term. Remember PEEL paragraphs here.

  • Q4 - this is an essay question about Norman Wales. You must discuss the change made that they give you and then compare to other changes made to Wales at that time. Be sure to compare to the event given throughout - you should spend about 25-minutes of the exam writing this response.
