Visions, Values & Virtues

Excellent care, excellent outcomes

RAS Prospectus 19We want Ralph Allen School to be exceptional and extraordinary, a school that everyone is proud to be associated with. We want to be truly comprehensive, actively embracing difference and diversity. We want to provide an environment that values learning, inspires courage and helps everyone achieve their potential.

We want to be a listening and responsive school with relationships at the heart, welcoming everybody and creating a strong sense of belonging. We want to develop respect, resilience and resourcefulness, challenging and stretching each individual in a supportive way.

We want to celebrate our students’ wide-ranging abilities and achievements. We want to empower our staff to be inspiring, creative and optimistic. We want our leaders to be visionary and future-oriented, continually challenging the way we think about and provide education.

We want Ralph Allen to be the best possible learning environment for students and staff, so we will continue to seek ways to improve our curriculum, campus and facilities. We want to pursue our collaboration with schools, organisations and businesses for the benefit of the community. We want to help our students to be active, thoughtful and responsible citizens of the world, proactively working to protect our planet and developing our international connections.

At Ralph Allen School we endeavour to model and teach positive character traits through assemblies and the tutor time and PSHE programme; it is an intentional, planned and organised curriculum. ‘Character’ can be defined as a set of personal traits or dispositions that produce specific moral emotions, inform motivation, and guide conduct, whereas ‘character education’ includes all explicit and implicit educational activities that help young people to develop positive personal strengths known as virtues.

We believe that character virtues translate into positive feelings and behaviours. The process of character education is not only one of acquiring new ideas and strengths; it is about living within a community. It enhances pupils’ experience of belonging, personal growth, and self-determination and is vital to the development of good character and commitment to learning.

At Ralph Allen School we aim for our values and virtues to be seen on the playing fields, in classrooms, corridors, interactions between teachers and pupils, in assemblies, posters, head teacher messages and communications, staff training, and in relations with parents. Our ultimate goal is to equip pupils with the intellectual tools to make wise choices of their own within society.

The Ralph Allen Way of Respect Teamwork and Personal Best underpins all of our work on character virtues:
