BackSchool Closure due to Extreme Heat - Wed & Thurs
23 June 2026Dear parents/carers,
I hope you are well and coping in the heat.
With exceptionally high temperatures forecast over the coming week, we will be implementing a number of measures to help ensure students remain safe, comfortable and able to engage fully in their learning whilst in school. However in light of the red weather alert that is in place for our area please note that the school will be fully closed on Wednesday and Thursday due to the extreme heat.
After reviewing the mitigation that we have put in place and the temperature across our classrooms today we have decided full closure is the safest option for the young people at Ralph Allen on Wednesday and Thursday.
Whilst the school is closed on these days teachers will set work on class charts for students to complete at home.
To support the wellbeing of all students when on site on Tuesday and Friday, we will be making the following adjustments:
- Students may attend school in Ralph Allen School PE kit until the end of term.
- Sports days have been postponed.
- PE lessons and other physical activities may be adapted, moved indoors or postponed where necessary.
- Students are encouraged to bring a sun hat for use during breaks and lunchtimes. Sunglasses may also be worn outdoors.
- Please ensure sunscreen is applied before school. Students may bring sunscreen with them to reapply during the day if required.
- Outdoor activities will be reduced during the hottest parts of the day, and shaded areas will be used wherever possible.
- Classrooms will be kept as cool as possible through the use of fans, ventilation and blinds.
- Students will be encouraged to drink water regularly throughout the day and should bring a refillable water bottle to school each day.
- Staff will remain vigilant and monitor students for any signs of heat-related illness or discomfort.
